PAS welcomes Rais’ action on cancelling Erykah Badu concert

(Bernama) — PAS Youth welcomed the action by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim to cancel the concert of female singer Erykah Badu, which is scheduled to be held here Wednesday night.

Its secretary, Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil in a statement said the action should be lauded for championing Islam, so that other individuals would not make a fool of Islam.

Erykah Badu, 40, whose photograph published in The Star newspaper Monday, created an uproar among Muslims in this country with her fashion style which hurt Muslim sensitivities.

The photograph of the funk, hip hop and soul singer from Dallas, Texas and who had won the Grammy award, showed various tatoos including a tatoo of the word Allah on the artiste’s bare body.

The Star, however, apologised to its readers after having been summoned by the Home Ministry to explain the use of the photograph in the newspaper.
