All BN, Umno leaders must apologise

Najib Razak

(FMT) – A Malay NGO has asked all Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders to emulate Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and apologise to all Malaysians for their past blunders and wrongdoings.

Penang Malay Congress president Rahmad Isahak said Najib’s apology alone was was not enough.

“Umno and BN leaders should emulate Najib’s leadership by example. They must collectively apologise to all Malaysians. Or else, Najib’s public apology would be a waste,” he told FMT today.

He said it would not be easy for Malaysians to forget or forgive Umno and BN’s wrongdoings since they were badly affected by them.

He recalled that the people vented their frustration and anger in the last election by voting in Pakatan Rakyat to power in five states and denying BN its traditional parliamentary two-thirds.

Umno president and BN national chairman Najib had extended an apology in Kuala Ketil, Kedah, over the weekend to the people on behalf of BN for the coalition’s mistakes.

Rahmad said Malaysians were moved by Najib’s open apology, the first done by a Malaysian prime minister.

“But the question is, would the people accept his apology?” he asked, adding that PMC however appreciated Najib’s humble gesture.

Daim’s ‘BN will win big’ mere rhetoric

PMC also dismissed former finance minister Daim Zainuddin’s bold prediction that “BN would win big in the next polls” as a mere rhetoric boast.

Rahmad said BN cannot afford to rest on its laurels thinking that all was well and the coalition would be able to retain Putrajaya and recapture the Pakatan-held states, as predicted by Daim.

Unlike the past, he reminded BN that the coalition had to work harder than ever to regain its lost electoral grounds, especially among young voters.

He said BN must accept the fact that the lay voters now think differently, demanding a government to safeguard and enhance their political and socio-economic interests and rights.

“People have no time to entertain unwarranted politicking and gimmicks. They want good governance and effective delivery,” he cautioned.

Therefore, he said, Umno and BN leaders cannot afford to remain as spectators while Najib alone shouldered the burden of transformation and worked hard to retain Putrajaya.

He said these leaders had their respective duties and responsibilities to work alongside Najib for the betterment of the country and people.

He reminded BN leaders that the real political power was in the people’s hands, thus these politicians must constantly and consistently work hard to produce the goods.

“Or else, Umno and BN would become an archeological artifact after the 13th general election,” he warned.
