KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang is worried that the Pas-led Kedah government is fast transforming into becoming like the Ulama councils in Afghanistan and Iran.

In Afghanistan and Iran, the Ulama council is more powerful than the Government and has the final say on almost every matter in the country.

Tan told The Mole “Pas is using the formation of the steering committee as an excuse to form some sort of council to take over the administrative role of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak.”

“To me it should not have been formed in the first place as the committee will distrupt the chain of command in Kedah.

In his blog, Tan wrote that Pas should not attempt to change the administrative structure in Kedah under the pre-text of solving internal conflicts amongst their leaders.

Tan who is a lawyer by profession said, “I demand Pas respect the Kedah constitution and not to form any panel or body that intends to circumvent the function of Kedah MB, who is appointed by the Sultan of Kedah under the Kedah constitution. This is clearly unconstitutional.’’

He suggested that Pas leaders who are not fit to run the state of Kedah should be replaced capable ones.

Both Datuk Dr Phahrolrazi Zawawi and Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh had accepted a reappointment as Kedah exco after Pas central committee formed the steering committee to oversee the administration of Azizan.

Ismail Salleh The Mole the steering committee does not limit the powers of the mentri besar but the mentri besar was answerable to the committee should there be problems in the state government.

“The function of the MB will remain the same except there will be a powerful body set to question any problems, issues or wrongdoings in the state government.

“It (steering committee) will act as a reference body for the MB and other exco members.” he explanied.
