Report lodged against 2 bloggers

(NST) – The Federal Court yesterday issued a statement regarding the alleged slanderous postings in a few blogs about the judicial system.

The court’s Corporate Communications and International Affairs head, Mohd Aizuddin Zolkeply, said the statements would be considered as contempt of court and action would be taken according to the law.

“We have lodged a police report against the two bloggers who wrote defamatory statements against Court of Appeal judge Anantham Kasinather and linking other judges about intervening in cases involving Magic Telekom Sdn Bhd and Numix Engineering Sdn Bhd.”

A few blogs were seen carrying links about the issue and widely circulated by Internet users with comments criticising the judicial system. Aizuddin said the courts took a serious view of matters which intentionally tarnished its image.

“There are many ways of dealing with issues pertaining to a judge or the court itself,” he said, adding that defamatory statements, comments or articles could be misleading.

He said the matter was under investigations by the police.
