Karpal-Rama spat over, declares Guan Eng

DAP secretary-general urges party leaders and members to stay focused on the general election.

(Free Malaysia Today) – DAP top brass has agreed to ceasefire on the highly publicised spat between party supremo Karpal Singh and embattled deputy secretary-general P Ramasamy.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said that this was agreed to at a meeting among his father Lim Kit Siang, advisor and former national chairman Dr Chen Man Hin and Karpal.

“We agreed that the latest (Karpal vs Ramasamy) episode highlighted by the BN-controlled media has ended,” Lim, the Penang Chief Minister, declared in his blog posting here today.

Lim urged all members to close ranks and stay focused on the historic opportunity for change to save Malaysia in the coming general election.

He said party leaders and members should stand united so that political enemies would not be able to exploit the situation by organising demonstrations against the DAP or DAP leaders on one pretext or another.

Last Sunday, Karpal rebuked the three-man disciplinary panel for clearing Penang Deputy Chairman II Ramasamy of any breach of discipline and found him not guilty.

Karpal charged the panelists of having been tainted with elements of biasness and conflict of interests.

Conventional wisdom

He said that since Ramasamy was a member of the four-man party disciplinary committee, the panel should have been constituted of different party members.

The three men who sat for the disciplinary hearing on Feb 16 were all members of the party disciplinary committee.
