Khalid: S’gor sand contractors must sign integrity pact

(The Star) – Sand contractors in Selangor will be asked to sign an integrity pact on Monday, said Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

He said all contractors of state-owned company Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) would be asked to make the declaration to rid the sand mining industry of allegations of corruption.

“They will sign the pact, which serves to remind all contractors of their commercial responsibility and their responsibility to the people,” said Khalid in response to Wong Koon Mun (BN-Kuala Kubu Baru) during the question-and-answer session at the state assembly here Wednesday.

Earlier, Khalid said staff of state subsidiary companies would be trained to enhance their abilities so that they could justify earning a minimum wage of RM1,500 a month.

The state government, in the Budget 2012 tabled last year, had proposed that RM10mil be set aside to implement minimum wage of RM1,500 in state government-linked companies (GLCs).

He said the concept was to increase productivity by increasing wages.

“The objective is that no staff in GLCs receive a salary of under RM1,500. Those that earn less RM1,500 and below need to be given training and skills so that they can earn RM1,500. We must enhance their capabilities,” he said.

For example, Khalid said an office boy could be trained to do clerical work and double up as a dispatch to justify his higher salary.
