(Bernama) – The decision for Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to remain as Wanita Umno chief as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is apt and should not be questioned, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Ali Rustam.

The Umno Supreme Council member said the decision was made based on the agreement of about 1.3 Wanita Umno members from throughout the country.

“The people (Wanita Umno members) had chosen Shahrizat as Wanita Umno Malaysia head and she is not guilty of anything. If there is anything wrong, it is related to her husband and their children. It has nothing to do with her leadership in Wanita Umno.”

Mohd Ali said this to reporters after officiating at the One-Stop Health Centre Programme: Self-Examination and opening of the Pantai Peringgit Community Pedestrian Track, here, today.

Therefore, he said, there was no reason for Shahrizat to resign from her Wanita Umno post as she had committed no offence.

“We believe the decision will not adversely affect support among pro-Barisan Nasional voters in the coming 13th general election,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ali said the setting up of 59 such community one-stop health centres in Melaka was aimed at creating a healthy society and reducing the number of people with chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity.

He said the setting up of the centres at 24 community halls, 20 schools and 15 federal and state government departments in Melaka provided a medium for the public to undergo health screening with ease without having to go to the health clinics.

The one-stop health centres are equipped with furniture, computers and information communication technology (ICT) and facilities for physical activities.

“We know that Melaka has the second highest number of obese people after Negeri Sembilan, and the highest number of people with diabetes in Malaysia.

“This is causing a big loss to the country when many of those between their early forties and fifties suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure,” said Mohd Ali.

In this regard, he urged the public to make use of the one-stop health centres for physical activities like exercise and brisk walking at least four times a week.
