SNAP going it alone this polls

(Borneo Post) – KUCHING: SNAP will tackle the 13th general election on its own, and they have no intention of forging ties with Pakatan Rakyat (Pakatan).

Its secretary-general Frankie Nyumboi told The Borneo Post yesterday said the party would field candidates in at least four constituencies.

“We will definitely contest in the coming general election, except that we are not going to have any pact with Pakatan. We will solely be on our own.

“The actual number of seats is still undecided although we are certain of four seats where SNAP traditionally has hardcore supporters.”

He revealed the four seats as Mas Gading, Betong, Saratok and Baram.

Mas Gading, a predominantly Bidayuh constituency, is currently helmed by Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe, who was recently shown the exit by SPDP for gross insubordination. He is now partyless.

The Betong MP is Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas (from PBB), Saratok is under Deputy Home Minister Jelaing Mersat (SPDP) and Baram under Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan (SPDP).

“As of now, we are focusing only on these four seats, but the number may increase from time to time depending on the situation.”

Nyumboi said it was easy for them to identify the seats as they need not have to worry about overlapping claims with Pakatan.

“Pakatan divorced us in the last state election, and at the moment we are still not part of them. We also have no intention to patch up with them.

“All I want to say is although we do not have any pact whatsoever within Pakatan, we remain an opposition, and claims that SNAP is with BN (Barisan Nasional) are untrue.”
