MCA, DAP at loggerheads over Sungai Way project

Both lodge reports with MACC, alleging abuse of power and corruption

(Free Malaysia Today) – Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San of DAP and Selangor MCA’s Public Complaints Bureau deputy chairman Kelvin Chong Seng Foo were at each others’ crosshairs over a Sungai Way redevelopment plan worth RM100 million.

At a joint press conference organised by Kelvin Chong, which was attended by Lau, the duo accused each other’s respective coalition (Pakatan Rakyat and BN) over the stalled development which involves Sungai Way’s sole football field.

The whole epiode was witnessed by the press corp at the Selangor’s Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) office here.

Lau asked Chong: “You claimed to have evidence of corruption by the Pakatan government a week ago but why have you not lodged a report?

“If you don’t lodge a report, your claims are unsubstantiated. The project was approved during BN’s time in 2007. If you have the evidence, then lodge a report now.”

Chong rebutted by saying that the development plan for the area was valid only for a two-year period after which a new plan had to be submitted by the developer .

“What we want to know from the Pakatan state government is whether the field has been sold or not. Since they are in power, they could stop the project,” said Chong.

“It has been four years since Pakatan took over the state government and they still cannot understand how the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) administration functions.”
