SAPP accuses DAP of sabotage

(The Star) – The Sabah Progressive Party is accusing the DAP of trying to sabotage its cooperation with Pakatan Rakyat.

SAPP vice-president Datuk Chua Soon Bui said DAP was undermining efforts of local parties to cut a deal with Pakatan to ensure one-on-one contests with Barisan Nasional in the general election.

Chua, who is Tawau MP, said DAP leaders were continuing to cast doubts about SAPP by making insinuations about its association with Umno and Barisan.

She questioned the motive of DAP national vice-chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim when he said SAPP had brought Umno to Sabah during a speech in Tawau.

“Teng’s comment is baseless and aimed at assassinating the character of SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee,” Chua said, adding that when Umno came into Sabah in 1990, SAPP was not even formed yet.

Urging Teng, who is Selangor state assembly speaker, to get his facts right, Chua said that it was curious that attacks by national and state leaders against SAPP were continuing despite a ceasefire order in October by DAP national party advi-ser Lim Kit Siang.

“They are literally sabotaging SAPP’s fervent and sincere plan to forge cooperation with Pakatan in the elections,” Chua added.

SAPP together with State Reform Party (STAR) headed by Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said they are prepared to work with Pakatan but some parties like DAP, want them to join Pakatan.

But Dr Jeffrey yesterday threw a spanner into the works when he announced that STAR may contest all the 25 parliament and 60 state seats together with its partner, the yet-to-be registered Usno Baru.
