Stop stoking racial tension, CM told

BN state information chief M Logabalan says Lim Guan Eng was wrong to suggest that Hindu shrines will face the threat of demolition if Umno returns to power.

(Free Malaysia Today) – A local Barisan Nasional leader has criticised Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for stoking racial tension by attacking Umno over the demolition of a Hindu shrine in Prai last month.

BN state information chief M Logabalan said Lim was wrong to suggest that all Hindu shrines faced the threat of demolition if Umno returned to power in Penang.

“Umno has never been responsible for the demolition of any places of worship. Lim should stop inciting racial tension and issuing disparaging remarks to stir communal sentiments. He should stop his racial politics,” the state PPP chairman told FMT today.

A 40-year-old Hindu shrine – Sri Muniswarar Alayam located near the checkpoint of Prai bulk cargo terminal in Penang port – was desecrated and flattened last month.

Lim demanded the port landlord, the Penang Port Commission (PPC) and operator Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) to find an alternate land to rebuild the demolished shrine and bear its cost.

He also demanded PPSB chairman Dr Hilmi Yahya, who is also BN’s Teluk Bahang assemblyman and PPC chairman to apologise to the Hindus over the demolition.

Hilmi had already assured that the port authorities would rebuild the shrine at an appropriate place.

The issue exploded again this week during an argument on the demolition at the on-going assembly sitting when Lim said that all Hindu shrines would be threatened if Umno returned to power.
