MCA wants DAP’s stand on non-Malay Johor MB
(The Star) – The MCA has challenged the DAP to state publicly its claim that if Pakatan Rakyat were to win in Johor, the Mentri Besar’s post would be held by a non-Muslim.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the state DAP had been spreading this news at their functions and to the Chinese media.
He dared them to state the same to the English and Malay newspapers.
“They have fed the Chinese community with all sorts of information and I dare them to make a clear stand on the matter,” he said at a press conferance after the launching of the Kembara Mahkota Johor here.
Dr Chua said that state DAP leader Dr Boo Cheng Hou had made the statement several times at state level functions and questioned why the party did not want to spread this message to the mainstream media.
Sin Chew Daily had reported Dr Boo last month as saying that although the state constitution allowed only Malays and Muslims to be the mentri besar, there were provisions for non-Malays or non-Muslims to hold the post with the Sultan’s approval.
