NGOs protest against Nizar’s questioning of Sultan’s car number bid
(Bernama) — Several NGOs participated in two peaceful demonstrations here today in protest against Perak PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin for allegedly having questioned the successful RM520,000 bid by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, for the WWW1 car registration number.
More than 500 members of 26 NGOs marched three kilometres from Menara Landmark to the Johor Baharu Selatan police headquarters.
“The peaceful march was to hand over a memorandum to the authorities to expedite the investigation into the matter. The people of the state are angry and disappointed with Mohammad Nizar,” said Johor Baharu Umno Youth head Khaled Mohamad.
Johor police are investigating Mohammad Nizar for sedition for having allegedly questioned over Twitter the sultan’s bid, implying that the monarch had used public funds to make the purchase.
The Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, had tweeted to say that the Johor royal family did not take any money from the government, and Mohammad Nizar has apologised to the Johor royalty.
Meanwhile, more than 100 members of the Johor 4B Youth Movement and the Malay right-wing group Perkasa marched for about 100 metres from the Johor Tourism Information Centre (Jotic) to the Istana Besar.
