If Pakatan wins the Chinese will lose their rights
“It is important the Chinese community must have their political rights protected. I am worried if these rights are still in the hand of the opposition after the next election, we shall stay out of the political mainstream.”
(Borneo Post) – Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) branch chairman here Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh says it is time for DAP to be relieved of their political hold here because they have done nothing for the people since their election victories.
“Time has passed; until today, the opposition representatives have not done anything constructive for the people who handed them their political power. It is us in BN who are the real workers for the people,” he said at the flag hoisting ceremony to mark SUPP’s 53rd anniversary celebration at dawn yesterday.
Wong added that it was time for change and called on the people to give the mandate to BN government to bring them back into the political mainstream.
Wong, who is the Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development said when State DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng won Sibu Parliamentary seat in the by-election he had three state seats of Bawang Assan, Nangka and Pelawan under him.
In the state election, he said, Ho Leng went on to win Bukit Assek Seat while the Pelawan and Dudong seats also fell to DAP.
Wong observed that despite their political dominance DAP had not brought any development here.
He added DAP was only good at instigating the people to be dissatisfied with the government.
However, Wong cautioned SUPP members against dismissing the opposition’s propaganda and urged them to counter it by explaining to people the real situation here.
“This could weaken us. We must rise to break their lies to lead the people back to political mainstream in the spirit of sharing within the Barisan Nasional.”
He said the political reality was, when the dust of the next election settled, BN would still be the government.

SUPP Sibu branch, he said, had recommended two capable leaders to be candidates here.
“We hope Datuk Tiong Thai King will retain Lanang Seat and Vincent Lau could wrest back Sibu Seat.”
He said the two candidates were not only active in politics they had also been active in religious, cultural and educational activities and in charity.
On SUPP’s anniversary celebration, Wong said the party must remember the contribution and sacrifices of their founding leaders maintain their spirit in the party.
“In more than half a century of political struggle, SUPP has served the people well,” he concluded.
