Anwar dared to deny fabricating story linking PM with Altantuya, submarine deal

(The Star) – An Independent MP has dared Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to deny that he ordered his lawyer to cook up a story linking the Prime Minister with slain Mongolian beauty Altantuya Shaariibuu and the Scorpene submarine scandal.

Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim (Independent-Bayan Baru) said he challenged Anwar to prove his innocence as he deemed the allegations to be very serious.

“Zulkifli Noordin (Independent-Kulim Bandar Baru) was Anwar’s lawyer and he claimed that he received orders from Anwar to conjure up the story linking Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with Altantuya and the Scorpene submarine deal.

“If this is false, then Anwar should take the effort to deny the claims,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Thursday.

Zahrain said Najib had once swore in the mosque that he did not know Altantuya.

“As such, a similar act should be done by Anwar to prove his innocence,” he said.

In 2008, Najib swore in a mosque that he did not know Altantuya and had nothing to do with her murder.

On a video depicting an attempt by unknown parties to lure Pakatan Rakyat MPs to defect to Barisan Nasional including Zahrain, the former PKR MP said he had nothing to do with it.

“I became an independent MP on my own accord. I didn’t join Umno and that is why I am free to criticise the Government. I was never offered (a bribe to cross over) and nobody came to see me,” Zahrain said.

Khalid Samad (PAS-Shah Alam) had earlier revealed a video and alleged that there was an attempt to offer RM2mil to Pakatan MPs to jump ship.
