Saifuddin: Najib and Musa Needs to Explain ‘Amangate’ Issue
(Malaysian Digest) – “Based on the evidence and documents that have been obtained by legal agencies and institutions, I find it difficult for the Chief Minister of Sabah in not being able to present himself with a responsible statement because, firstly, this matter involves the reputation of a Malaysian leader, and secondly, on the matter of the background prior to this has placed the Sabah chief minister in a position of being involved in similar activities as the current issue.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman must give their explanations with regards to the ‘Amangate’ issue which allegedly involves Musa, said PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.
“Silence and no-response on the ‘Amangate’ issue from the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and the individual involved in the case, Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, does not resolve the matter,” said Saifuddin when met by Malaysian Digest on Wednesday.
Whistleblower website Sarawak Report had published a flowchart said to be compiled by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), illustrating how money flowed from certain companies into accounts managed by one Michael Chia and his nominees in Hong Kong, to a number of British Virgin Island (BVI) companies, and then to the account of a Sabah lawyer, before being passed into an account in Zurich in Musa’s name.
Chia has been described as Musa’s nominee and the intermediary between Musa and timber traders.
Saifudddin (pic) added that the respective authorities should begin the process of investigation as the ‘Amangate’ money laundering activity is a serious case, however, no action has been taken up to this day.
“Amangate is in relation to money laundering, which is the activity of clearing money from sources that are not legit by law.
“Based on the evidence and documents that have been obtained by legal agencies and institutions, I find it difficult for the Chief Minister of Sabah in not being able to present himself with a responsible statement because, firstly, this matter involves the reputation of a Malaysian leader, and secondly, on the matter of the background prior to this has placed the Sabah chief minister in a position of being involved in similar activities as the current issue.
“This is the latest disclosure in relation to documents involving the money laundering activity with neighboring countries… Suspicious sources through the exploitation of the revenue from natural resources in Sabah, particularly in timber trade, are used in the activity where it is directed into specific accounts that involve personal interest,” said the Machang MP.
Saifuddin raised his concern over Najib and Musa choosing to keep mum over the allegations leveled against Musa as the matter does not only involve the integrity of the local politicians but it also involves the competency and authority of respective institutions in the country which should be conducting thorough investigation by now.
He added that many similar issues have been left hanging in the same manner while the Prime Minister remains silent without presenting a single statement to clarify the issues.
