DAP has failed to voice out for the Chinese, says MCA chief

DAP has failed to be the voice of the Chinese community since Pakatan Rakyat came into power in 2008 here.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said DAP chose to be silent and had failed to object to any of the PAS-led state government policies which had affected the state.

“It is unbecoming because DAP never questions what the state government does even if the policies or directives affect non-Muslims here,” he said after opening the Kedah and Perlis Hai Yang social and recreational building in Taman Selatan here.

On a similar note, Dr Chua said the state government had also failed to fulfil the promises made in the last general election such as ensuring a better garbage collection system; providing interest-free loans to state civil servants and not increasing the water tariff rates.

He also noted that the Chinese community was waiting for the promised new abattoir to replace the one demolished in Jalan Putra here.

“The PAS-led state government had imposed many restrictions that must be followed by all, including the non-Muslim community. Even when the state amended the Syariah law to give more power to the state mufti, DAP failed to utter anything,” he said.

Dr Chua believes Kedahans can now compare what Pakatan has delivered during its four-and-a-half years in the state to what Barisan Nasional did previously.

He added that MCA was optimistic of winning back the three state and one parliamentary seats it lost in the last general election while at the same time, defend the Alor Setar parliamentary seat, which was won by Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung, and the Gurun state seat, won by Dr Leong Yong Kong.

The seats it lost were the Padang Serai parliamentary as well as the Kota Darulaman, Kulim and Bakar Arang state seats.
