MP’s aide denies kickbacks claim

Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching’s personal assistant has denied accusations made by independent Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng that he is corrupt.

(FMT) – An aide for Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching has today denied accusations made by independent Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng on Wednesday that he had allegedly received kickbacks amounting to RM18,000.

Chan Huan Guan, in a e-mail statement, said that he would be filing a defamation suit against Tan and “whoever that spread his lies”.

He added that he would also be lodging a police report against Tan’s “irresponsible statement” soon.

“First of all, my name is Chan Huan Guan, not Chan Hung Guan. When Tan failed to get such basic information correct before he called for a press conference, one can foresee the inaccuracy in his entire accusation,” said Chan.

“I deny vigorously and firmly the accusation of Tan that I have collected as much as RM18,000 in kickbacks since 2009.

“It is irresponsible for Tan to spread lies and defame my name without providing evidence to substantiate his claim,” he added.

Chan challenged Tan to produce evidence to substantiate his allegation. “If he cannot do so, he should immediately retract his accusation and apologise to me.”

On Wednesday, Tan, who is both a former PKR and KITA leader, accused Chan of taking RM18,000 in kickbacks since 2009.

Tan claimed that he had documents to prove that a “secret agreement” had been made between Chan and an unnamed landlord, who rented out his Cheras premises to Teo since 2009.

Half of the RM1,000 monthly rent paid by the Selangor state government would allegedly be handed by the landlord to Chan, claimed Tan.

Tan also said a friend of the landlord had complained to both the Menteri Besar’s Office and the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) to no avail. The complainant had then apparently approached Tan.
