PAS Hypocritical for Suggesting Non-Muslims as Party Leaders, Says Umno MP
(Malaysian Digest) – Idris stressed that Umno has always been tolerant and always embracing the idea of diversity. “My advice is PAS should follow Umno’s footsteps in order to survive the Malaysian democratic process,” he added.
Tangga Batu MP Datuk Idris Haron (pic) said that PAS is hypocritical and desperate for suggesting that the party should allow non-Muslims into their leadership.
“PAS seems to be hypocritical and in desperation when its senior leader suggested that the party should open their leadership door to non-Muslims. They are even ready to sacrifice their seats for non-Muslim candidates,” he said in a statement to Malaysian Digest.
Meanwhile, on PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s suggestion to have a a PAS-Umno muzakarah, Idris said the idea is not new. He said previously there has been a motion for a meeting between Umno and PAS to look into some commonality and minimizing differences between the two parties.
“We tried to agree on some fundamentals like Islam must not be at the expense of a private agenda of any political party. However, PAS has always been inconsistent and unpredictable as the party’s original policy has been diluted.
“I’m referring to when the party leadership keeps changing the party’s ideology from to form an Islamic state to a just a welfare state while it collaborates with DAP which has been very vocal and aggressive against the Islamic law,”
Idris said these developments in the Islamist party may have contributed to PAS leaders thinking that they have experienced an increase in non-Muslim support in the last General Election.
“Ironically, 20 years ago they claimed that Umno leaders were ‘kafir’ for collaborating with MCA and MIC,” said Idris.
He added that PAS has failed to garner support from the Malays and Muslims, and the party subsequently went on to claim that those who voted for PAS will go to heaven.
“Now PAS will have to swallow what they had said about Umno, when they are seen to be in close proximity with DAP, and yet DAP chairman Karpal Singh has blatantly claimed that PAS is inconsistent and incompetent.
Idris stressed that Umno has always been tolerant and always embracing the idea of diversity.
“My advice is PAS should follow Umno’s footsteps in order to survive the Malaysian democratic process,” he added.
