July 10 Forum “Justice in a Period of Change”
Forum in Commemoration of Teoh Beng Hock’s 3rd Death Anniversary
10th July 2012 (Tuesday) 8pm, Petaling Jaya
Three years have passed since the tragic death of Teoh Beng Hock, and yet so many questions remain. The Coroner returned an open verdict. The Royal Commission of Inquiry ruled that he was led to suicide because of the MACC’s “aggressive, relentless, oppressive and unscrupulous” interrogation methods – and yet none of the MACC officers responsible has been prosecuted and none of its procedures has been made subject to public scrutiny, let alone be reformed.
These questions go to the heart of the Federal Government’s much touted “transformation” programme. If we cannot answer the question “who guards the guards”, then whither Malaysia? Have we become a police state? What protection can the ordinary citizen expect? How do we protect society against both corruption and false accusations of corruption? How far are we prepared to let politics subvert the rule of law?
We can build no greater memorial to the life of Teoh Beng Hock than in our struggle not to let his death be in vain. The first step in this is to ask the tough questions and grapple with difficult answers. What sort of institutional changes are needed to reform the system? What can be done by the public to ensure these reforms are carried out? We must stand for justice in this period of change.

赵明福命案三周年纪念活动
7月10日“变革转型期间的正义”英文论坛
民主行动党将于2012年月10日晚上8时，于吉隆坡暨雪兰莪中华大会堂举办题为“变革转型期间的正义”（Justice in a Period of Change）的英文论坛。当晚开幕嘉宾为民主行动党国会领袖暨怡保东区国会议员林吉祥，三名论坛主讲人为蒲种区国会议员，也是赵明福家属的代表律师哥宾星；马大法律系助理教授阿兹米沙隆以及著名人权律师云大舜；论坛主持人为杨淑雯。
这项活动是配合赵明福命案三周年纪念活动所举办，尽管赵明福已经不幸丧命三年，可是，命案真相始终没有大白。联邦政府推出一连串的“转型”计划，但连一宗命案的真相都无法还给受难者家属，令人不禁质疑，马来西亚是否已经成为警察国，而国人又还能指望可以从执法机关得到什麽保护呢？
种种问题如我们该如何对抗贪污同时也免受虚假贪污指控的侵害，我们又能够容许法治遭政治颠覆到什麽程度？都需要社会大众与相关专家、人士一起深入探讨，找出答案。
赵明福的生命已经消逝，但他捍卫民选的民联雪州政府免受国阵二度使用政变手段所颠覆，我们不应让他用生命所换来的民主果实就此消失。我们首先必须质问，我们究竟需要哪些制度性改革？社会大众又能如何确保这些改革彻底落实？
在此变革转型期间，马来西亚人必须站出来，让正义得以伸张。
