Dr Wan Azizah confirms running for state seat
(The Malaysian Insider) – PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail confirmed today that she is gunning for a state seat in the 13th general election, but remained coy about the location.
“I can only contest in the state constituency where I am registered as a voter,” she said.
The Penang-born, who now resides here, declined to disclose the constituency when asked.
Dr Wan Azizah is barred from contesting at parliamentary level after voluntarily resigning as Permatang Pauh MP in August 2008 to pave the way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s return to active politics.
She had revealed her plans to contest two nights ago after a PKR convention in Penang.
“Even though I have the choice to choose any constituency I wish to contest in, I still need to get feedback from supporters.
“The party is thinking of suitable places for me,” she was quoted by Sinar Harian as telling reporters.
