‘We reject Haniza as our elected rep’
PJS 1 longhouse residents say the Taman Medan state assemblyperson had done nothing to resolve their woes
(FMT) – Replace current PKR state assemblyperson Haniza Talha with another candidate or risk losing our votes in the general election, PJS 1 residents said today.
The Block E buyers action committee chairman M Sugumaran said: “Haniza is only good for carrying out programmes and dishing out goodies and freebies. She had done nothing for us.”
He was responding to Petaling Jaya Selatan PAS chairman Ghazali Shaari who told FMT yesterday that a poll conducted recently showed that a large number of the constituents do not want Haniza to be fielded in the constituency.
The poll, conducted among 800 non-PAS members, showed 85% of non-Malays in Taman Medan wanted a PAS candidate to fielded in the next polls.
Thirty five percent of the Malays wanted a PAS candidate and only 25% wanted a PKR candidate.
There are about 40,000 registered voters in the constituency. Haniza beat BN candidate Munaliza Hamzah in 2008 with a majority of over 4,000 votes.
Sugumaran claimed Haniza, who also the Selangor state assembly deputy speaker, never helped the Block E buyers who have been residing in the longhouses since 2008.
“Haniza didn’t even bother to vist Mahalingam’s family when he died,” claimed Sugumaran.
In May last year, V Mahalingam, a disabled man, had his house demolished by developer Peter Brickworks Sdn Bhd based on a court order to make way for a condominium project.
He and his partially blind wife, B Pushparani lived in a tent for about a month before the state government offered them a free flat unit at a nearby low cost apartment.
Sugumaran praised Ghazali, saying that the PAS leader had voiced out the plight of the longhouse residents numerous times to the Petaling Jaya City Hall (MBPJ).
