A Preposterous Lie

The commentator Singkris states, “You got 5 million from Anwar when he was Minister. What did you do with it? Now that no more money is coming you have turned against him. You ungrateful fellow!”

I refer to one of the comments in response to my article in Malaysia Today of 10 th July 2012 entitled “Combating Corruption Beyond Party Politics.”

The commentator Singkris states, “You got 5 million from Anwar when he was Minister. What did you do with it? Now that no more money is coming you have turned against him. You ungrateful fellow!”

As soon as this allegation was first made on 28 October 1999 by Dato Abdul Murad bin Khalid I sued him for libel. I called it “a preposterous lie” in a media statement.

Dato Murad met me a few times, apologized for his allegation and sought an out of court settlement. An amicable settlement was reached through my lawyer on 26 March 2004 and my suit against him was discontinued.

Though the terms of the settlement are kept confidential through mutual agreement, the settlement itself vindicated my position.

The public should know this so that malicious lies are not repeated ad nauseam.
