Barisan offers to help solve hillslope development problems

(The Star) – Teng, who is Gerakan secretary-general, reiterated that the list of hillslope development projects that was declassified by the state was misleading.

BUTTERWORTH: The Barisan Nasional has offered to sit down with the state government and discuss the hillslope development problems in Penang.

State Barisan chief Teng Chang Yeow said the party was willing to put aside its political differences with the Pakatan Rakyat administration and discuss the options that could be considered to tackle the problems.

“We are willing to work with the state government to see how best to strictly enforce the rules and regulations on hillslope development.

“We do not want to quarrel over this matter but they (the state) keep harping on it,” Teng said after launching Barisan’s Bagan parliamentary constituency election machinery at the Tan Si Eng Chuan Clan Association hall here yesterday.

Teng said Barisan was willing to send a team of leaders and experts to “tell the state government, if not teach them” how to handle hill-slope problems.

“It is time to find a solution to this problem,” he said.

Teng, who is Gerakan secretary-general, reiterated that the list of hillslope development projects that was declassified by the state was misleading.

As such, he has directed state Gerakan local government bureau head Teh Leong Meng, who heads a committee looking into hillslope development, to stop going through the minutes.

“There is no need for us to continue reading the minutes because they (the state government) have given us misleading information.”
