Give us letter of indemnity, says Guan Eng

(The Star) – The Federal Government should provide the Penang Government with a letter of indemnity so that the state can cancel hillslope projects, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung‘s statement that the state only needed to pay a small amount of compensation to developers if it decided to cancel hillslope projects was an “empty announcement”.

“The state shouldn’t be paying the compensation as we did not approve the projects.

“Barisan Nasional approved it, so they should pay because we might have to pay up to hundreds of millions or billions of ringgit,” he said after visiting the Persatuan Penganut Dewa Hean Boo Thean at the Weld Quay reclamation area yesterday.
