EC: Overseas Malaysians not keen to register as voters

(The Star) – Overseas Malaysians are apparently not very keen on registering as voters, said Election Commission (EC) chief Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

He said the EC has worked hard to accomodate overseas Malaysians as postal voters but the response so far has been “very poor”.

“As far as the EC is concerned, we have informed our missions through Wisma Putra and written to them officially appointing them (missions) assistant registrars.

“The requirement for postal voters is to first register as a voter, but it could be that the priority is either mid-level or low (among overseas Malaysians) to register as voters,” he said at a press conference THursday, after briefing political parties on election rules.
