KOTA KINABALU: The staggered departure of Upko deputy president Wilfred Bumburing from the Barisan Nasional coalition government resumed this week.

Bumburing quit his post as BN chairman for Tuaran parliamentary constituency effective yesterday (July 23) and announced he would make another announcement on his political future at the end of this week.

“I will be making an important announcement with regards to the future direction of my political struggle during a special gathering at Dalit in Tuaran this Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 1pm.

“Those who are free and have time on that day are welcome to join the gathering,” he said.

Bumburing said he has sent his resignation letter to BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Sabah State BN chairman Musa Aman.

He has also extended copies of his resignation letter to Upko president Bernard Dompok and secretary general Madius Tangau.

Dompok is currently on a two-day working visit to Kinabatangan, Sandakan until today.

Speculation about Bumburing leaving the BN has been rife since early this year, along with another senior BN leader cum Umno supreme council member Lajim Ukin.

His resignation as BN Tuaran chairman may be a prelude to Bumburing’s next course of action – quitting the BN and crossing over to the opposition.

Bumburing’s decision comes just days after Upko supreme council held a meeting at the party headquarters in Donggongon, Penampang. He was not present when Dompok chaired the meeting last Friday.

Lajim visits Nik Aziz

Sources close to Bumburing said that he would likely drop yet another bombshell on July 29 by announcing his departure from Upko and BN.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is also expected to be making a visit to Sabah this weekend.

It is learnt that Anwar has been invited to a Berbuka Puasa gathering which will be hosted by Lajim at the latter’s residence in Beaufort, also on July 29.
