Selangor Sultan urges Muslims to put unity above politics

(Bernama) – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor today urged Muslims in the state to forget their political ideologies and unite in the spirit of strong brotherhood in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan.

He said Muslims should fully focus on their religious obligations and strengthen unity among each other so that Islam may be held in high regard and respected by people of other faiths.

He stressed that good deeds were called for by Islam so that the faithful could receive Allah’s blessings both here and in the hereafter.

“As such, let us together think positive, see the good in others and be serious and sincere in fulfilling our duties as called for by Allah.

“I hope we can shoulder this responsibility entrusted to us to the best of our ability,” he said at a breaking fast and Aidilfitri aid contribution ceremony as well as the opening of the Kampung Pulau Meranti Mosque in Puchong near here.

He also urged mosque officials in the state to be sincere and dedicated in serving their respective congregations.

Also present were Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Selangor Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Marzuki Husin.

At the function, he also handed over Aidilfitri aid contributions to  230 needy people, 125 converts and 136 orphans.

The Sultan also performed the Isyak and Tarawih prayers at the mosque costing RM6.1 million which can accommodate 1,000 people at any one time.
