Gerakan committed to contest 47 parliamentary, state seats – Koh

(Bernama) — Gerakan is committed to contest 47 parliamentary and state seats in the upcoming 13th General Election besides defending incumbents seats, said its president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

“That is our commitment. Obviously, those are the areas we have served for so long. If our services can be continued, we definitely will contest the seats,” he told reporters at Gerakan’s headquarters here today.

He said Gerakan was at the third stage of evaluating the listed candidates with the list already submitted to Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We have submitted the list but it is not finalised. We will discuss the list at the BN Supreme Council meeting,” he said.

Commenting on Beaufort Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin and Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Bumburing quitting as BN members, Koh said was important was that BN component parties including Gerakan meet the people’s needs.

“Gerakan will play a positive role to be with the people,” he said, adding that Gerakan was active in Sandakan, Tawau and Kota Kinabalu.
