Selangor mulls building water treatment plants
(Bernama) – The Selangor government is considering building new plants close to existing plants, especially those operating above their capacities, to boost production of treated water.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said local authorities were also asked to repair water pumps at the retention ponds in Balakong, which were reported to be either damaged or missing, to overcome water supply problems in the area.
He said an inspection by the state local government, studies and research committee chairman Ronnie Liu found pumps at the retention ponds in Balakong under the supervision of Syarikat Bekalan Air Sdn Bhd (Syabas) to be either damaged or faulty.
“So, we can repair or replace the pumps through local authorities and bill Syabas,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting here today.
Meanwhile, Liu said 11 areas in the vicinity of Balakong that experienced water supply woes included Taman Bukit Belimbing, Taman Seri Belimbing, Taman Harmoni Indah and Taman Balakong Jaya.
He said the Kajang Municipal Council had also been directed to send water to the affected areas daily, from 8pm to 10pm, for as long as it is required.
