Suaram urged to register online
(NST) – The Registrar of Societies (ROS) yesterday urged Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) to register online so as to not have its status hanging in the air.
Its director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman said Suaram should come forward and apply online instead of blaming other parties over its status.
“Instead of having preconceived ideas, Suaram should just get itself registered by sending in their application first, instead of posting ill- feelings against the ROS on social networking sites,” he said.
Rahman said there was no application received from Suaram so far.
He said anyone could register a society or organisation by applying to the ROS through its online application system, the eROSES system, at www.eroses.gov.my
He said the application would be reviewed and answered within five days. It was reported that Suaram director Kua Kia Soong had earlier this month said it would immediately register with ROS if there was no problem. However, he had also claimed the ROS approved registrations selectively.
In a Twitter post, Kua had said Suaram was registered with the Registrar of Companies 23 years ago as “it was very difficult to be registered under ROS”.
Suaram had posted a press release on Friday detailing the status on the inspection being carried out by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), which requires its directors, Kua and Yeoh Seng Guan, to produce information and documents to CCM by July 13. It was understood that Suaram had applied for an extension.
Suaram, an outfit linked to Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd, was also not registered under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 or the Companies Act 1965, said the CCM in a report recently.
