80% Indians back Barisan, says Makkal Sakti

(The Star) – Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party claims up to 80% of Indians support Barisan Nasional.

Its president Datuk R. S. Thanenthiran said this was because Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had addressed various community issues.

“Najib is concerned about the welfare of the Indians. This is evident in his actions such as allocating over RM200mil for Tamil schools in the country. He has made over 15,000 stateless Indians citizens after we raised the matter,” Thanenthiran said in his speech during the party’s fourth national convention in Teluk Batik here yesterday.

He said the party’s election machinery was ready for the general election.

State Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who opened the convention, agreed with Thanenthiran’s statements.

“His (Thanenthiran’s) observation carries weight as he has been working on the ground and constantly engaging the community.

“Apart from that, MIC and Makkal Sakti have also been cooperating and all component parties have complemented each other, especially in Perak,” he said.

Dr Zambry announced a RM100,000 allocation for Makkal Sakti for party activities.
