Sue Raja Petra, not NST, lawyer urged

(NST) – A former close associate of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on lawyer M. Puravelan to sue blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin for accusing him of involvement in an alleged conspiracy related to the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder.

Independent Bayan Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim said Puravelan could only clear his name by taking legal action against the fugitive blogger.

He said it was “ridiculous” for Puravelan to instead take legal action against the New Straits Times for publishing what was written about the issue.

“Puravelan should sue RPK instead if he really wants to clear his name. Why does he have to sue NST? NST was just reporting what was written by RPK and repeated by others,” he said here yesterday.

Zahrain also questioned Puravelan’s refusal to either confirm or deny the allegation by Raja Petra about his link with lawyer, R. Sivarasa, a Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president and Subang member of parliament.

He said lawyers should emulate another former Anwar associate, Kulim Bandar Baru member of parliament Datuk Zulkifli Nordin, who refused to be part of the defence team in the Altantuya case when he realised that he was being used in a conspiracy to implicate the prime minister.
