Malaysia police faces abuse coverup charges

(Al Jazeera) – More than 150 people have died in police custody in Malaysia since the year 2000. Many of the deaths have been put down to natural causes but the police have been accused of a cover-up. Now there’s an inquiry into why so many people have died. But with the police force investigating its own staff – not everybody is convinced the truth will be uncovered. Al Jazeera’s Florence Looi reports from Kuala Lumpur.

Death in custody,only in Malaysia

(Malaysiakini) – Between 2000 and Feb 2011, 156 people died in detention.

Some of the most gruesome cases that have garnered media attention are Kugan’s passing of skeletal muscle damage in 2009 and C.Sugumar’s death where he was allegedlly handcuffed, smeared with tumeric and beaten to death by the police. 

Now the limelight is on N. Dharmendran, a husband and father who died a brutal death while in custody.
