Man detained over ‘Himpunan Guling Kerajaan’ Facebook posting
(The Star) – A 25-year-old man has been detained over seditious Facebook postings allegedly incited people to join the “Himpunan Guling Kerajaan” rally on New Year’s Eve.
The man, whose Facebook name is Asmaelz Hadzeny II, was detained from his home in Saratok, Sarawak, at about 11am on Thursday.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said the jobless man, would be sent to Kuala Lumpur to assist in the investigations.
“We expect him to sent to Kuala Lumpur as soon as possible.
“The case is being investigated under Section 124C for activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy,” he said in a statement.
Police had previously detained Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) chairman Azan Safar on Monday in connection with a plot to overthrow the Government.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has previously labelled the “Himpunan Guling Kerajaan” (Rally to Topple the Government) a threat to national security.
He added that police have taken steps to make sure the gathering would be stopped.
Khalid has urged the public not to attend the rally, adding that those involved with the gathering would be investigated under the Penal Code and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
