A fair solution is urgently needed to solve the ‘Allah’ conundrum and Najib Razak as the Prime Minister has to act quick to iron out the issue, Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran said today.

Kulasegaran, who is also DAP national vice chairman, also lambasted the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) for raiding the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM), an act which he deemed as illegal.

In addition, he expressed  regret over the explanation given by the department director to the Selangor executive councilor claiming that the Islamic department ‘forgot’ to inform the Selangor government before the raid.

“The prime minister has to do something about this and he have to act as soon as possible. He can’t keep quiet on this matter as it involves national unity as to preserve inter religious harmony in the nation,”

“The news was the most shocking news I have ever heard. The raid conducted was not just illegal but it was totally unacceptable,”

“Equally shocking was the explanation given by Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad as the Jais director to Sallehan Mukhyi who is the officer in charge of religion in Selangor,”

“How can they say that they forgot to inform the state government, it is totally a joke. It is a pathetic,” he said.

The upset Kulasegaran urged the Selangor state government not to accept the explanation given by JAIS and suggested that Sallehan question Ahmad Zaharin over the Cabinet’s 10 point solution to fix the problem.

“Selangor state should not accept the reason given by Jais and Ahmad Zaharin answer to Sallehan. He should know the 10 point solution provided by the cabinet regarding this matter,” he added.

In April 2011, Idris Jala as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s department had issued a 10 point solution to resolve the Alkitab – a malay version of bible, issue.

“Clearly the raid and confiscation of bibles in Bahasa Malaysia and Iban language went against the solution,”

“So did they (Jais Offciers) ever been briefed on the solution? If no, why? But if yes, a stern action must be taken for violating the solution,” he said.

Last Thursday, Jais raided the BSM office in Damansara Kim and seized some 300 of the Bible in Bahasa Malaysia and Iban. The society’s president, Lee Min Choon, and its manager, Sinclair Wong, were also detained until 4pm.

The raid came only two days after a protest against price hikes that was reportedly dominated by Malays, courting criticism from the opposition that the raid was merely a stunt to distract the Malay community from the rising cost of living.
