Hindraf flays Selangor Menteri Besar for failing to control Jais
(TMI) – The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has ticked off the Selangor Menteri Besar for his inability to control the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).
“Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should take action now against the officials concerned, clarify who is running the show and set the rules for future raids,” said Hindraf national adviser N. Ganesan in a statement today.
Ganesan was referring to last week’s raid by Jais at the Bible Society of Malaysia’s premises, which was carried out without a search warrant or authorisation letter.
“Abdul Khalid should also instruct Jais to rescind its order requiring two BSM senior officials to report to its office on January 10,” he said .
He called on leaders from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to resolve the Allah issue before it escalated and spiralled out of control.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should make his stand on the issue and resolve it once and for all before it escalates,” Ganesan said.
He also urged Selangor Umno leaders not to make matters worse by holding demonstrations as this would aggravate the situation.
He added that Najib should also make a call for the public to remain calm.
Ganesan pointed out that the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor had the authority to amend the state’s Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation among Muslims) Enactment 1988.
“The PR government can resolve the conflict which last week’s raid has given rise to. The judiciary does not seem to have the appetite or the will to resolve the situation.
“The lawmakers have to act to clarify the situation and to apply the rule of harmonious construction of the statutes in these situations,” Ganesan said.
