(Bernama) – Six shots were fired at the house of the president of Besut District Council in Kampung Gong Kapas here on Monday.

Terengganu CPO Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said Ibrahim Mohamad, 55, his wife and one of their children, who were at home during the 6.15am incident, heard explosions but did not realise they were shots.

It was only at about 8.30am when Ibrahim’s wife was cleaning the house that she noticed glass fragments from their car and bullet casings in the compound of the single-storey bungalow, he said.

She immediately telephone her husband, who was already at his office, and informed him, Jamshah added.

Police said six shots were fired at the house – two hit the building and four hit a Mercedes Benz CLK320 car.

Jamshah said police did not rule out the possibility that the shots were fired as a warning, apparently by someone unhappy with actions taken by the council president.

He said the police probe indicated that the shots were fired from close range, about five metres away, and by more than one person.

The forensics team recovered a Luger Speer 9mm shell from the road in front of the house, he added.
