Both Najib and Anwar lack political will to resolve ‘Allah’ dispute

Finally both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have broken their silence on the hooligan-like Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) raid on the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) on Jan 2.
However, it must have been disappointing to sane-minded Malaysians as both leaders offered nothing concrete to resolve the protracted issue on the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims – all talk no action.
Najib, at his department’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya on Jan 6, said:
Ø “Sensitive issues which can affect peace and stability in Malaysia must be handled calmly and with maturity.” — Really, do Malaysians not know that already?
Ø “Dialogue and engagement must be held and those involved must set aside their emotions to discuss matters rationally.” — Again goody woods uttered since 2008 on the same issue.
Ø “Najib said sensitive issues should be handled based on the rule of law” — Raiding the BSM’s office without a court warrant is rule of law? And
Ø “Peace and harmony between the different races in Malaysia must be treasured. The development Malaysia has enjoyed so far would be meaningless if the country was torn apart.” — We don’t need a prime minister to tell us a fact; we want to know why he does not have the political will to stop it within his power after getting his own mandate from the rakyat in the 13th General Election.
