Come up with better measures to help people, says Liow

The Government has to come up with better measures to help the people overcome the price hikes, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the Government has to be prudent in its spending and improve the country’s economy and competitive edge in order for Malaysia to stay afloat in the global market.
“I know many people are struggling to make ends meet. The rationalisation of subsidies has contributed to the rise in living costs.
“As such, the Government must be seen doing more for the people, by using what is saved from the exercise.
“It must filter down to the people in need or target groups, especially the poor and middle class.
“There is also the challenge of improving the economy and coming up with more job opportunities for the people.
“While this is a world phenomenon facing almost every government, ours has to come up with better measures to help the people,” he said.
On politics, Liow, who is Bentong MP, said the political divide and racial extremism have become serious after 505 (May 5 general election); with the Malays and non-Malays having differing views on politics.
“The task in promoting harmony and unity in the country is increasingly challenging.
“Of course, this has been compounded by many opportunists who cashed in on the situation for political expediency.
“There is the urgent need to strengthen the country’s foundation on harmony and unity, including the spirit of inclusiveness, give and take, love for the country and to put the nation before self.
“All these will help chart the country’s journey in an increasingly challenging environment at home and abroad.
“I am confident the Prime Minister and Government can come up with good measures to overcome the diversed challenges.
“We are very stable politically, and Barisan Nasional, as the ruling coalition, must be strong and united for it to come up with measures to strengthen the economy and help ease the people’s burden.
“Our Prime Minister is working very hard to bring up the country’s economy by attracting a lot of foreign investments.
“The relationship with China and the United States will be further enhanced to help boost our country’s economy,” he said.
