Probe on Father Lawrence sent to DPP
(The Star) – Investigation papers on Father Lawrence Andrew’s statement on the use of Allah have been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor on Wednesday.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shukri Dahlan said the case will be investigated under the Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948.
A total of 109 police reports were lodged against the Catholic priest after a news portal carried an article of him saying Christians will continue using the word ‘Allah’ during mass despite a ruling against non-Muslims in Selangor for using the word.
A total of 101 of those reports were made in Selangor.
“We have recorded statements from 99 individuals on the matter as well,” he told a press conference after attending the police contingent’s monthly assembly.
Father Lawrence had his statement recorded on Tuesday, eleven days after the article carrying his statement was published.
He went to the Shah Alam police headquarters at 3pm with lawyer Francis Pereira and left after two hours.
He also showed investigators a 100-year-old Malay version of the Bible.
