‘Khalid made a stupid move’

Removing Azmin Ali from PKNS board, Khalid Ibrahim may check mate himself

There seems to be no love lost between Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

The feud between the duo, which has been around since 2008, is poised to escalate to alarming levels with Khalid removing Azmin from the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) board.

But now the question running around peoples’ mind is this: why was Azmin removed suddenly when the latter’s contract only expires in February 2015?

While Khalid may have justified it by saying that Azmin had returned the perks given by PKNS before the general election, it could also be related to the upcoming party polls in April.

Rumour has it that Khalid is going to challenge Azmin for the party’s deputy president’s post.

However, a PKR state assemblyman said that it would be stupid for Khalid to resort to such a move if he was attempting to challenge Azmin for the said position.

“If Khalid thinks this will undermine Azmin’s influence in PKR, then I will call it a stupid move,” said the PKR leader, who requested anonymity.

The party source added that while Khalid is the state’s menteri besar, Azmin is a long time PKR loyalist who commands widespread support from the grassroots.

And with the strong support, Azmin was able to be a check and balance to Khalid. It was evident when the Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman criticised the state government on the hefty pay hike announced recently, which made Khalid livid.

Even Anwar not informed

Touching on Azmin’s removal from PKNS, the party source said that none of the Selangor PKR state assemblymen were consulted on the matter.

“It was a sudden decision from the MB. Of course, Khalid has the authority to do so as he is the chairman of PKNS.

“But Khalid should have at least informed Selangor PKR leaders. Come on, we are from the same party and Azmin is our deputy president,” said the PKR leader.
