3,000 gather to protest against insulting Najib
(Bernama) – Over 3,000 people gathered near here today to condemm the unbecoming action of Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon and a group of DAP supporters who stuffed kangkung (water spinach) into the mouth of the prime minister’s lookalike plywood cutout at a night market in Machang Bubuk on Wednesday.
The gathering organised by Permatang Pauh Umno division to protest against the insult on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was also to serve as a stern warning against what is regarded as continuous ridiculing of the Malays and Islam.
State Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the protest gathering particpated by members of non-governmental organisations and Malay welfare bodies was held as the “patience of the Malays has been stretched to the limit over such unethical actions”.
“We can differ in opinions but we don’t have go to the extent of insulting others.
“The action of the Machang Bubuk assemblyman from Parti Keadilan Rakyat was not only rude but also uncouth,” he told reporters after joining the protest procession around Pusat Bandar Sunway, Seberang Jaya.
The procession which started at the Sunway Sports Centre and ended at Sunway Carnival Supermarket was also joined by State Umno Liaison Committee secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, Permatang Pauh Umno division chief Mohd Zaidi Said and other Penang Umno leaders.
Other than shouting ‘Long live the Malays’ and singing praises for Prophet Muhammad, the group also carried banners condemning Lee and DAP’s action.
Pictures of individuals stuffing kangkung into the mouth of the figure cutout have appeared on Lee’s Twitter page and attracted public comments.
