Umno mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia today accused Machang Bubuk state assemblyman Lee Khai Loon of being a racist for criticising the prime minister but not the Penang chief minister.

Awang Selamat, the pseudonym used by the newspaper’s editors in their weekly editorial, said Lee’s actions in stuffing kangkung into an effigy resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was not only foolish but insulting to Malay leaders.

Awang said although Lee was an elected representative of the people, his mentality was akin to that of a glue-sniffing addict.

“While Putrajaya is implementing various cost-cutting measures by slashing the allowances of ministers, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is using the rakyat’s money to buy a new luxury car.

“Why did Lee not stuff the logo of the Mercedes-Benz S300L into an effigy of Lim as a symbol of wastage? Is it because Lim is a Chinese and Najib is a Malay?” Awang asked, referring to the Penang state government’s purchase of a Mercedes-Benz for use as the chief minister’s official car.

“Putrajaya is trying to save money but the Penang Chief Minister is buying a brand new car despite the state suffering a budget deficit over the past four years,” he added.

Awang said Parti Keadilan Rakyat leaders were cowards for not daring to raise the issue of Lim using public funds to buy a luxury vehicle.

“Awang feels sorry for Lee, perhaps he had experienced bitter memories during his school days?”

“I do not know what is Lee’s problems, perhaps he is confused or suffering from a lack of affection?” Awang speculated.

“Lee is only insulting himself, an elected representative of the rakyat should be mature and civilised, not full of bad habits.”
