PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has finally broken his silence over debates surrounding the Kajang by-election and pledged the party’s support for PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s candidacy.
Abdul Hadi’s stand was made clear in a brief statement released on Feb 4 after he had earlier chaired a meeting of the party’s political bureau.
“In line with the spirit of political collaboration within Pakatan Rakyat, the central and Selangor PAS will support PKR’s election machinery for the Kajang by-election.
“PAS election director Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli has also been appointed to head the party’s election machinery in Kajang,” Abdul Hadi said.
However, Abdul Hadi reiterated that the rumours surrounding the position of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim “was never discussed” in the meeting.
Anwar’s candidacy was first announced on Jan 28, to mixed reactions from PAS, following the resignation of former PKR Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh.
