Anwar’s Pipe Dreams and Empty Promises
(Malaysian Digest) – In an exclusive report in Sinar Harian today, Anwar Ibrahim said he imagines himself replacing Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as the Selangor’s MB if he wins the Kajang’s DUN by-election.
According to Anwar, there is a real chance of him being Selangor MB if there is a discussion with Pakatan. “It is possible,” Anwar is quoted as saying.
But he is no stranger to some headline-grabbing statements before.
Past Contradictory Statements By Anwar
July 4 2012: Professor Anwar
“I will retire if PR loses in the General Election and become a Professor.”
May 25 2013: It’s The Bangladeshis’ Fault
“I will not retire. We won the GE. The loss involved the incoming of Bangladeshis to participate in the election. It is a scam.”
November 21 2013: It’s Umno’s Dirty Game
“I have never said the Bangladeshis was involved, this is Umno’s dirty game.”
January 27 2014: I’m Not Competing In Kajang
“I will not be competing in the Kajang by-election. It is only a speculation.”
Only a day after, he was announced as the candidate representing PR for the Kajang by-election.
January 28 2014: Khalid Will Continue Being Selangor MB, Not To Worry
And on the same day, Anwar made this statement.
“Khalid will continue to be the MB. I will not take over. This accusation is invalid and is a mere speculation.”
February 7 2014: Yes, I’ll be MB if Kajang is won
“I don’t deny I’ll become the Selangor MB if I win the by-election, but now our focus is on the by-election.”
One wonders what statement would he make after the by-election, win or lose?
Will he make new promises after winning the seat?
Can we imagine Selangor’s future with Anwar as the new MB?
