PKR leaders unaware of post-dated quit letter

(The Star) – Several PKR leaders said they are not aware of a post-dated resignation letter drawn up by the top party leadership for Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is said to be aligned to Khalid’s arch-nemesis PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, indicated however that “one should honour such an agreement, if it indeed existed”.

“I don’t know if there is any agreement. If there is one, the person involved must honour it,” she said.

Yesterday, The Star reported that the resignation letter was part of the PKR’s plan to clear the way for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to lead Selangor.

According to high-level sources, Khalid was scheduled to sign a post-dated letter of resignation drawn up by the PKR leadership but he has avoided doing so.

The letter is believed to be dated March 23 – the day when Kajang voters go to the polls.

The Kajang seat is vacant following the resignation of its assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh from the PKR.

PKR supreme council member Dr Xavier Jayakumar said he did not know anything about the resignation letter.

However, the Seri Andalas assemblyman said the backbenchers had tendered all suggestions and expectations on what should be done to the party leadership.

“This does not necessarily (involve a resignation letter). We just said that something must be done in the state,” he said.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua vehemently denied the report.

“This allegation is false. It is nothing but a smokescreen,” he said.
