Azmin to sue Suara Keadilan?
Speculation is rife that the PKR deputy president may haul the editors of the party’s mouthpiece to court over an article published last week
(FMT) – The infighting in PKR is expected to deepen in the coming weeks with speculations that deputy president Azmin Ali will initiate defamation proceedings against his party’s mouthpiece, Suara Keadilan.
The suit, say sources, is over an article published by the weekly newspaper last week. Insiders said Azmin’s camp is miffed over the article and “the boss is expected to file a suit against Suara Keadilan anytime soon.”
It is learnt that the editors of the party’s newspaper were summoned to answer queries from the PKR leadership recently on the publication of the article.
“The amount he plans to seek is RM2 million but that could change. For now that is what we have heard,” said a party insider.
FMT’s efforts to get comments on the matter from top PKR leaders were unsuccessful.
The article in contention, said the source, was published on Feb 11 by Suara Keadilan and written by its regular columnist Hishamuddin Rais.
Hishamuddin, who is also an activist, branded Azmin as someone who has Umno’s ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ mentality and repeated the claim in radio interview, saying Azmin should not be ashamed of the fact.
Hishamuddin also said several others in the party who had the same mentality were PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, party secretary general Saifuddin Nasution and Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul.
