Prominent lawyer and former PKR supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim today trashed claims that he used the opposition party to lobby for projects from the Selangor government in 2010.
Denying the claim, Zaid, who is also ex-Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said allegation against him by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli was misleading and not true.
Yesterday, Rafizi alleged that Zaid had used PKR to influence the Selangor government in the awarding of contracts in 2010.
Rafizi also distributed copies of e-mail exchanges between himself and Zaid, claiming they were proof that Zaid lobbied for land projects in Selayang and Petaling Jaya.
Zaid said today: “Those names in the e-mail were my clients. They are not my friends. They came to see me and asked if I can help them. I sent the mail to Rafizi to ask if he can consider the two companies.
“They were businessmen and it is normal for businessmen to seek help or recommendations from politicians, be it Umno, PAS, DAP or PKR. You read the email and tell me which part or sentence says I asked for projects?
“Rafizi is making this up. This is his ‘reka cipta’,” said Zaid, adding that he had no inkling as to the outcome of the deal between the Selangor state government and the two developers.
“I do not know. I hope that Rafizi can ‘expose’ more about my ‘wrong doing’… if he has more things to show,” he added.
