“No, no, Kajang move has not failed” – Wan Azizah
(Malaysian Times) – PKR’s aspirant for the Kajang by-election, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has rubbished the talks that the party’s “Kajang move” was unsuccessful as her husband, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is not contesting the seat.
“No, no, it has not failed. People have said I will win with a bigger majority, but as far as I am concerned, the support has never wavered,” she said when met by the press after her early morning walkabout at Pasar Kajang here, Thursday.
Wan Azizah, who is the PKR president, said the majority the party obtained in the March 23 by-election was the least of her concerns, reported The Star Online.
“In politics, even if you win with a one vote majority, you still win,” she said.
She was responding to the reports which quoted Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to have said that PKR’s plan in initiating the “Kajang move” was ruined when Anwar was disqualified from contesting.
“What’s the move? Their only move for Kajang was to make Anwar the mentri besar, but unfortunately, their hopes are dashed,” he said after a walkabout at Taman Mesra here, on Wednesday.
PKR had initiated a strategy, dubbed the “Kajang move”, to improve Selangor’s administrative performance and diffuse religious and racial tension in the state.
Anwar was originally set to stand in Kajang, following the resignation of its assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh.
The plan was derailed after Anwar was disqualified from contesting following last week’s Court of Appeal decision which overturned an earlier High Court acquittal, sentencing him to five years in jail for sodomising his former aide.
Wan Azizah remains optimistic that the support for her will translate to votes.
“I find Kajang people to be enthusiastic and welcoming towards me, that is a positive sign,” she said.
